On September 17 – 20, 2015 Alternate ROOTS will convene the first of six Regional Gatherings in New Orleans, Louisiana. As part of each convening ROOTS will connect with local organizers and artists to produce each convening, and a significant part of the gathering will include documenting the experience and lessons from the work on the ground. The latter enables the organization and the field to share the experience and learning far and wide.

For each convening ROOTS will identify artists, organizers, and cultural organizers to share their work and stimulate dialogue intended to create opportunities learn from each other, to share stories, and to bond over the course of two three-day regional retreats. The retreats will be grounded in the work of ROOTS Partners In Action program but it will not be the sole focus of the weekend. The intention of this project is to help artists gain a deeper analysis of the work going on within the region, and to see how artists are working with local communities to develop creative solutions to long-standing issues.

We are looking to attract ROOTS members, artists, cultural organizers, and creatives from the local community and regional and national partners, peer organizations, and funders to these events.15838090020_cd291579bc_b
