Rent our Technology: making the technology ROOTs has developed available to the system.

So this is a hunch, but it's an educated one.  The technology that was recently created for ROOTS (integrated website, membership, registration, directory and development systems) might be something that could potentially be very valuable to other organizations.  If this is true for you, read on.

It would be in the best interests of an organization with a mission like ROOTS to facilitate that technology becoming available cost effectively to ROOTS organizations.

There are a couple of different scenarios and business models that would support something like that.

1) Rent your Event Registration:  for a processing and set up cost, there is a potential that ROOTs can, with the technology we have, 'rent' our website for processing event registrations for others.   In this case, ROOTS would benefit by expanding our database, while at the same time making it cost effective (and valuable) for members.

2) Get Power in Numbers:  If there were 5-10 of you who wanted some version of what ROOTS has, I would basically spend a lot of time building a way to replicate those sites (which is an initial focussed investment in time) and then make customizations so that it suits your organization.  Seriously, if there were a critical mass, this would be easy.  And if ROOTS saw it as an opportunity to further their mission, the initial work might be subsidized via ROOTS or another foundation...

3) Let's hear other Ideas:  Seriously, this is worth the time to brainstorm.  How much time do you personally waste in a day because the systems you are using are not supporting you?  Technology becomes cheaper the more people use it.  If we can spread this out, it could be affordable for everyone.  We would just need to think about the business model...  Anyone interested?  Comment below.

Acces to creating a website for our organizations

Is this Shannon writing about this technological opportunity?
Can you clarify?

I'm volunteering for an organization that needs a website. We are using www.africanamericanheritagecouncil.shutterfly.com because it is free and sends out weekly, or monthly digests, but it is housed within shutterfly.

I'd like to learn more about what you talking about.

Peace.

might take a while...

just because we are going to be talking about this at the Excomm Meeting. I have some non-ROOTers who i am starting to talk to about joining forces for affordable technology...

can you send more information about what you are looking for? it might be that we are able to double up with some of the partners i am beginning to gather...

ana

this is ana

nope, not shannon. this is ana. i have spoken with carlton and shannon about ideas like this one, and know that they support the idea in spirit, regardless of whether the organization can support it financially.

i'm just seeing what kinds of needs there are. hope, can you write up what you are thinking about and need in a more specific way? i can create a questionnaire if that would be helpful. i know that brian francoise and sage crump have contacted me about similar needs...if we got some more folks out there will similar needs, it might be affordable for more folks in a bigger way...
