Short Description:
Artist Statement: "White is the New Black"
How does the performance of passing and assimilation effect the psyche and consciousness of Black people? How do internalized concepts of inferiority and racism inform and impact the movement(s) of Black people? "White is the New Black" is a short experimental performance that utilizes movement, hip hop, and poetry to debunk notions of a post-racial, melting pot, United States of America while displaying one woman's struggle with and against assimilation.
