When you create a blog, or a forum post, or a group posting on the website, you have the opportunity to select a group that the post is relevant to. The idea is that the members of these groups will automatically get an email that let's them know what was posted, and gives a direct link to the post.

This group is a Rhizome Cluster, which means that it identifies itself around a region.

Be an Extra for a Music Video!

Musician and environmentalist Ben Sollee needs extras for his upcoming music video, and he's looking to the talented world of Atlanta artists for help. In the video, Ben will be on his bike, passing through a moving, cardboard cut-out world. We need people to help make that world come to life on screen.

The shoot days are Wednesday, February 16th and Thursday, February 17th, and the extras would need to be able to commit to both days. This is a volunteer opportunity, but everyone will be receiving a "hot meal and a credit," as well as a possible live sneak-peak of Ben's upcoming record.

Verizon Opens the Search for Local Atlanta Mural Artists

I'm working with Verizon on their How Sweet the Sound gospel competition to find "The Best Church Choir in America." This year, Verizon is conducting a search to commission a qualified artist to create a mural to compliment the How Sweet the Sound competition and pay tribute to the spirit of gospel music in their hometown.  Verizon will select a local artist to represent their city during the How Sweet the Sound 2010 tour in each of the tour communities throughout the country to create a mural installation on a highly visible building wall.  Details can be found at http://www.howsweetthesound.com/general/mural

Basic English Lessons for ROOTers…

Many ROOTS members are not writers as their first discipline, but we communicate every day through email, proposals, etc.  Please take a few minutes to review the most frequent violations of the English language spotted in ROOTS communiqués.

Its – is a possessive.  For example, “its place,” “its function,” “its proper usage…”

Jo Carson, a founding member of Alternate ROOTS, is in the midst of a pitched battle with colon cancer.

Jo has been a self-supporting artist for more than 30 years.  Since quality, affordable health insurance is extremely difficult for independent artists to obtain, the insurance coverage Jo has is utterly insufficient to her current need – her policy will cover her surgery, but not the extensive chemotherapy and radiation she is currently under-going.

You can help by making a donation through ROOTS to Jo's Medical Expenses Campaign.  Please click here to make that important contribution.

Donate Air Miles to ROOTS

Hello ROOTERS,

If you attended the Annual Meeting, you may remember that among other suggestions that could help ROOTS, we suggested that members could donate frequent flyer miles. This would allow us to do the necessary travel to raise funds for programs and services, and save money in our budget!

Please contact us at the office if you or someone you know has extra miles you'd like to share.

Thanks for your continued support.
