Request for Subsidy

Annual Meeting 2010

To expand participation in our 2010 Annual Meeting and to represent the cultural and human diversity of the region ROOTS serves, Alternate ROOTS is offering a limited number of needs-based fee subsidies to our Annual Meeting, August 10-15, 2010 in Arden, North Carolina (just outside of Asheville). Fee subsidies will bring the cost of the Annual Meeting down to $150 total.  This cost is comprehensive for the Annual Meeting (it includes your meals, lodging, materials, etc.).  It does not include travel. There will not be any travel subsidies this year.

Please fill out this form to apply for a fee subsidy.  If you intend to apply for a subsidy, do not register for the Annual Meeting beforehand.

Please note:
Receiving a registration subsidy for a full-week rate of $150 is not tied to the amount of work that you do at the Annual Meeting.  This is not a work-study program. We all work and bring our skill to the A.M., and your offerings will be completely welcome, indeed necessary, in our space. But, please do not try to negotiate with the committee to work more and pay less than the $150.

What the program offers to participating artists and activists:

The Alternate ROOTS Annual Meeting offers professional development resources to artists who attend. In addition, the meeting offers studios and workshops with artists in many disciplines, focused on expanding artistic capabilities, making stronger connections with communities and increasing the impact of artists’ activism.

Who is Eligible?

Anyone who has a legitimate request for a fee subsidy due to financial means.

Who Will Decide?

A team of staff and/or board members will help in making the decision for eligibility.

What is Required of Participants?

Selected participants for subsidy are recommended to attend all six days of the ROOTS meeting. Attendance for fewer than five days is recommended to simply register outright at the day rate.  All participants, not just those who receive a subsidy, will be required to contribute to the annual meeting work co-op through teams that they sign up for during the registration process.
