Eventbrite - ROOTS Week 2016

ROOTS Week Annual Meeting & Artists’ Retreat is a unique gathering of artists and cultural organizers who are creating a better world together. The four-day, family-friendly event combines performance, learning exchanges, late-night cabarets, visual art installations, ROOTS business meetings, unscheduled retreat space, and, this year, a blow out 40th anniversary ROOTS Reunion celebration.

ROOTS Week is the place where we build community, try out new ideas, share our work, think critically about our processes, move the conversation on art, activism, and community forward, strengthen our alliances with the movements that are changing the South, and seek to embody the just world we are working to create the remaining 51 weeks of the year. Won’t you join us?

Alternate ROOTS supports the creation and presentation of original art that is rooted in communities of place, tradition or spirit. We are a group of artists and cultural organizers based in the South creating a better world together. As Alternate ROOTS, we call for social and economic justice and are working to dismantle all forms of oppression—everywhere.
