The Ongoing Dialogues Project

Welcome to The Ongoing Dialogues Project 2009 inspired and funded by the Community Arts Convening and Research Project, Alternate ROOTS Resources for Social Change (RSC) program and the folks in the communities of New Orleans, LA; Orangeburg, SC; Knoxville, TN; Atlanta, GA; and Baltimore, MD.

Gwylene Gallimard and Hope Clark started working together when they attended the Maryland Institute College of Art Convening in 2008 with a paper Principles of Working in a Community: Resources for Social Change.

In 2009 we traveled to five separate events sponsored by Alternate ROOTS, conversing and recording lessons learned about the principles of working in community. At each event we took on different responsibilities: as witnesses/researchers of a performance festival, as leaders/facilitators of workshops, and as participants in a Resources for Social Change planning and development retreat.

We explored people’s interpretation of power, partnership, dialogue, transformation and aesthetics and how they may inform the Resources for Social Change program. We used video documentation to record the voices of people and provide edited pieces of that video here for you to ponder. Because the research is about ongoing dialogues, we felt it important to have other voices comment on our thoughts included in the published paper. [link]

In this paper comments included are by Omari Fox, Ebony Golden, Bob Leonard, Jean-Marie Mauclet and Kathie deNobriga. Please add in your voice also, through comments here or blog on this site.

Peace.
Hope Clark and Gwylene Gallimard
