Logins, Registrations, Passwords

There has been some confusion regarding the differences between logging into the site vs. registrations.  Hopefully the following tutorial will answer your questions.

Let's separate the concepts out.

Another word for being 'registered' on the site itself, is being an 'authenticated user'.  What this means is that the website itself recognizes you with a username and password.  If you do not already have a username or password, you can go to the URL http://alternateroots.org/user/register, and create a login (ei: become an authenticated user) for the site.

Once you have acquired a username or password and you login to the site (the login link is at the bottom of the website), go to the URL http://alternateroots.org/user.  This is your user account.  Normally, when you login, you are automatically taken to this page.

You will notice that there is a tab at the top of the account called 'edit'.  If you click on that tab, you can alter the password for the site, so that you have one that is easier for you to remember.

Becoming a member and registering for the annual meeting.

Once you have a login, you can become a member of ROOTS and you can also register for the annual meeting.  We require that you become an authenticated user of the site first, because in order for the benefits of membership and registerring for the annual meeting to take effect, we have to first know who you are.  The way that the website knows who you are is when you 'authenticate' yourself on the site.

Being or becoming a member of ROOTS (purchasing membership on the site) enables
you to have ACCESS to parts of the site that are reserved for members
only.  Membership of ROOTS automatically expires on the site a year
after purchase, which is a way to ensure that people re-register.
To become a member of roots, go to the membership page and follow the links/instructions there.

Purchasing an Annual Meeting registration just gets you a ticket into
the Annual Meeting.  It does not give you membership on the site.

To purchase a registration and register for the annual meeting, go the the registration page and follow the links/instructions there.
