Sherella Cupid she/her/hers [Partnerships Programs Associate] As an Associate she supports the
planning and execution of regional meetings, workshops, and partnership re-granting funding
and programs. Additionally, she is an Interdisciplinary Researcher-Practitioner and Educator
based in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Her research centers on the experiences of Black
women and girls in education, with a focus on Black doctoral women and Black faculty women,
sister circles, mentorship, Black feminism and womanism. Currently she is creating digital sister
circles, via her podcasts, Lirae Journey and Sista Docs Exhale, and other emerging projects. She
holds a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Culture from the University of Maryland, Baltimore
County (UMBC), an M.Ed. with a specialization in At-Risk and Diverse Learners from Goucher
College, and a B.A. in International Area Studies, with a minor in Africana Studies from Drexel
University.

Alternate ROOTS supports the creation and presentation of original art that is rooted in communities of place, tradition or spirit. We are a group of artists and cultural organizers based in the South creating a better world together. As Alternate ROOTS, we call for social and economic justice and are working to dismantle all forms of oppression—everywhere.
