Where Should ROOTS Weekend Fall 2018 Be?

ROOTS Weekend-Atlanta marked the end of our first series of ROOTS Weekends. A special thank you to The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation whose generous support funded our first six ROOTS Weekends. The second series of ROOTS Weekends will kick off  in Fall 2018. We need your help brainstorming ideas for the location of our next ROOTS Weekend!

Here’s a list of things to be mindful of when suggesting a location:

  • Must be in ROOTS’ 14 state region*
  • Priority on rural communities
  • Partnerships – Are there ROOTers there, or organizations aligned with ROOTS’ mission we could partner with?
  • Is there an ADA compliant base venue there which could hold up to 250 people?
  • Transportation accessible – Is an airport nearby? Do you have strategy of how to get folks in and out and house them while in the neighborhood?
  • Places where ROOTS has not had a lot of activity in the past 3-5 years (Alabama, West Virginia, Arkansas, and Kentucky)

*The ROOTS Region covers the Southern area of the United States: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
