Alternate ROOTS is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2019 round of Artistic Assistance Professional Development.
Grants were awarded to eleven individual artists and cultural workers in the South to enhance their skills, create unique projects, and build community, for a total of $30,000 in support. These recipients were selected in July 2019.

Kevin Lee-y Green, Wilmington, NC, To foster mentoring and knowledge exchange with Mondo Bizarro, a New-Orleans based arts company.
Yvette Hyater-Adams, Jacksonville, FL, To attend a residency at Atlantic Center for the Arts to study with U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.
Vicki Meek, Dallas, To purchase computer equipment.
Khalisa Thompson, Wilmington, NC, To capture the stories of women, femme-identied, and non-binary folks living in Southern regions.
James Sanders, San Antonio, TX, To purchase 4KHD-ready production camera.
Shannon Willow, Clarkston, GA, To engage youth (primarily immigrants and refugees) in 2 mural projects.
Allison Orr, Austin, TX, For a residency and artistic exchange with Stephanie McKee of Junebug Productions.
Don Harrell, Winter Garden, FL, For assistance with travel costs to participate on a panel in Rome.
Andresia Moseley, Tampa, FL, To attend Urban Bush Woman’s Leadership Institute.

Savannah Barrett, Louisville, KY, To support Southern facilitators familiar with the UpROOTing Oppression framework to offer training to the KY Rural Urban Exchange program’s steering and host committees.
