Programs

Alternate ROOTS’ programs support the creation and presentation of original art that is rooted in community, place, tradition, or spirit, and promotes social and economic justice. Our current Programs include: Partners in Action, Artistic Assistance (Project Development and Professional Development), and our growing collection of Arts & Activism Tools.

Partners in Action is a program that focuses on fostering strategic partnerships between Alternate ROOTS and cultural organizing projects to support efforts of cultural equity and social justice. By providing technical assistance, resource mapping, staff support, financial aid, and connection to a larger network, Partners in Action offers artists and community partners the vital support needed to do their work with strategy and consistency.

Artistic Assistance provides direct support to individual artists and cultural workers in the South to enhance their skills, create unique projects, and build community. The program has two funding areas: Professional Development, and Project Development

Alternate ROOTS maintains an ever-evolving collection of Arts & Activism Tools for the field. These tools help ROOTS be a formidable network of cultural workers while supplying significant resources for artists and local communities throughout the region.

Alternate ROOTS supports the creation and presentation of original art that is rooted in communities of place, tradition or spirit. We are a group of artists and cultural organizers based in the South creating a better world together. As Alternate ROOTS, we call for social and economic justice and are working to dismantle all forms of oppression—everywhere.
