MEET OUR 2023 ARTISTIC ASSISTANCE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP GRANT RECIPIENTS!

Congratulations are in order for the 2023 Alternate ROOTS members who have been awarded Artistic Assistance: Professional Development Partnership Grants. These resources, providing funding of up to $2,500, are designed to empower recipients in bolstering their skills, obtaining essential equipment, engaging in collaborations with mentors, and taking their creative endeavors to new and remarkable heights.

Ida Aronson (New Orleans, LA) is receiving support for subscription services.

Adrienne N. Clancy (Silver Springs, MD) is receiving support for individual workshops with Mathew Heggem, who is certified in the Feldenkrais Method (a type of exercise therapy devised by Moshé Feldenkrais).

James Geiger (Charlotte, NC) is being assisted with digital experiences as a UX Designer, with a focus on accessibility. Charlotte, North Carolina.

Jarrell Hamilton (New Orleans, LA) is garnering assistance with administrative services for an organization.

Don Harrell (Winter Garden, FL) To support the website buildout for a new Orisirisi African Folklore non-profit founded in Fall 2022.

Shannon Ivey (Columbia, SC) to support the publishing (paper, ebook, audiobook) of a collection of essays.

Trécha G. Jheneall (New Orleans, LA) to support the purchase of film equipment.

daniel johnson (AKA dj cereal milk) (Jackson, MS) To support the purchase of high-quality Technic 1200 turntables and cases, DJ Cerealmilk will continue developing his fun style that gets all ages dancing, while highlighting uplifting artists across genres.

Dogon Krigga (Columbia, SC) is receiving support for equipment and design for exhibition experiences.

Ada McMahon (New Orleans, LA) is receiving support for group training in conflict resolution and transformative justice.

Adorable Monique (Naples, FL) work is being bolstered for mentorship and training needed as a visual artist focused on Environmental justice.

Bethany L. Pelle (Southgate, KY) is receiving support for an artist-led platform for disability rights.

Cindy K. Stegmeier (Charlottesville, VA) is being supported in seminars for fine art and portrait photographers who focus on trauma.

Onur Topal-Sumer (Atlanta, GA) is being supported for an Istanbul Improvisation Dance Festival.

Anthony Torres (Miami, FL) is receiving support for mixed media art with a seasoned and nationally known artist and arts administrator.

José Torres-Tama (New Orleans, LA) to support the purchase of computer equipment for digital product.

Laverne Zabielski (Lexington, KY) is being supported for a collaborative intensive workshop and training for a group of Appalachian artists.

 

Alternate ROOTS supports the creation and presentation of original art that is rooted in communities of place, tradition or spirit. We are a group of artists and cultural organizers based in the South creating a better world together. As Alternate ROOTS, we call for social and economic justice and are working to dismantle all forms of oppression—everywhere.
