ROOTS Office Closed for Staff Reflection, December 16 – January 2
As we have for the last several years, the Alternate ROOTS office will be closed for our staff reflection period for the last two weeks of the year. This is one of the ways we provide for the wellbeing of our staff. The office closure begins on Saturday, December 16, 2023; the office will reopen on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

Member News – New Schedule
Member News is an excellent way to keep your members informed about what’s happening within our organization, share important updates, and engage in our mission. Here is our new schedule and how you can submit information.
- The first edition of the month is – published near the first Monday of each month and features ROOTS reminders and Opportunities in the Field
- The second edition is published near the third Monday of the month and features ROOTS reminders and news from members and staff
To share your news in the second edition of Member News, please fill out this form by the first day of the month: Submit news by December 1, and it will be shared in the December 17 Member News.
If you want to share something on a shorter time frame, please join the private ROOTS members Facebook group where you can share your news with over 500 ROOTers in real time!

Apply for the Intercultural Leadership Institute
We are excited to announce the guidelines and application for the sixth cohort of the Intercultural Leadership Institute (ILI), a collaborative program of Alternate ROOTS, First Peoples Fund, National Association of Latino Arts & Cultures (NALAC) , PA’I Foundation, Sipp Culture, First Alaskans Institute, and The International Association of Blacks in Dance.
As leaders of these organizations, we have grown together, built trust with one another over time, and developed a shared analysis of the need for a leadership program of, by and for the artists and culture bearers in our communities. ILI is the result of our collaborative effort and we invite you to spread the word and encourage great potential participants to submit interest in the Year 6 Cohort.

ExComm Meetings
All members are invited to attend Executive Committee Meetings Meetings, which are held on the first Thursday of the month from 5:30-7:30 pm ET through the end of 2023. Meetings will switch to the first Tuesdays of the month in 2024.

Membership Work Group
The ROOTS Membership Work Group works closely with the Membership team to help review current practices and develop new initiatives for the ROOTS membership body. This Work Group is being reactivated for a deep dive into how we “do” membership, in response to ideas, concerns, and questions raised by many members.
