Executive Committee Nominations Due Friday, March 15

Nominations for Alternate ROOTS Executive Committee (ExComm) service for 2024-2027 are open now until Friday, March 15, 2024. 

Please think about the leaders in your region who are deeply connected to the work of Alternate ROOTS. Pause to nominate either yourself or someone you believe embodies the essence of a dedicated ROOTS member—a visionary leader poised to both learn and inspire.

With almost one hundred ROOTS voting board members, the ExComm is the body of 9-15 representatives that the voting members elect to offer governance and oversight throughout the year.

Voting members of currently active status can be nominated or self-nominate using THIS FORM. Once the nominations close on Friday March 15, the ExComm will review applications and propose a slate for an early voting period before the Annual Business Meeting, August 13-18, 2024.

You are Invited: Listening Sessions with ExComm

Join us for one of two listening sessions dedicated to hearing directly from our valued members.

These sessions aim to gather insights into how the ROOTS community perceives the organization’s needs, to discern the needs of the members in relation to ROOTS, and to understand our leadership transition process.

The Executive Committee seeks direct input from the ROOTS community regarding their experiences with the organization and aims to pinpoint areas where our Executive Committee can best support both the organization as a whole, its staff, and individual members.

Your perspectives will play a crucial role in shaping the organization’s forward movements.

Your active participation in these sessions is crucial for ROOTS’ prosperity and effective community service. Join us in shaping ROOTS’ future—open to all Alternate ROOTS members, including staff and the Executive Committee.

ROOTS WEEK 2024 WORK GROUP SEEKS MEMBERS

The Cultural Organizing Team is looking for participants in the ROOTS Week Work Group.

Join our first planning meeting(s) for ROOTS Week 2024. These will be information sessions for new people who are interested in joining the work group and a welcome back for those who were members last year. There are two dates and times to choose from. Feel free to attend either one.

Member News Email: To share your announcement in the Member News, please fill out this form by the first day of the month. Submit news by April 1, and it will be shared in the April 22 Member News.

Alternate ROOTS Facebook Group: If you want to share something on a shorter time frame, please join the private ROOTS members Facebook group where you can share your news with over 500 ROOTers in real time!

Alternate ROOTS Instagram Repost:

  1. Send a Direct Message (DM) with your graphic (JPG) to @alternateroots on Instagram. 
  2. Please include your name as it appears in your membership profile.
  3. We will add your graphic to our stories, and tag your Instagram handle.
  4. Please give the Communications Team 2-5 business days to post.
  5. Feel free to tag us in posts or stories, however if you want to be included in  @alternateroots (on Instagram) stories you must DM us.

Cultural Organizing Team Office Hours

The Cultural Organizing Team maintains relationships with ROOTS members and partners, sits on the board of several partner organizations, represents ROOTS in the field, and supports member-led work groups. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • ROOTS Week, ROOTS Weekends (RWE), and RWE Rhizomes
  • Coalition Building with Strategic Partnerships, Intercultural Leadership Institute, Southern Movement Assembly, and Southern Power Fund
  • YOOTS, Heal/Teal, Indigenous Working Circle, and other work groups
  • Organizing w/ ROOTS Justice Advocacy Fellow
