In an ongoing partnership with the Gaithersburg Elementary School Community in Montgomery County, Maryland, Story Tapestries is working to build a foundation for improved communication and greater family engagement through Dialogue Circle and arts-based multi-literacy training. The proposed events will provide a means for parents to become more involved and invested in their children’s education, helping parents reinforce classroom lessons and relationships at home.Three workshops will be offered to parents, teachers, staff, and other concerned adults. Two will train them in leading Dialogue Circles to improve communication and conflict resolution skills, and another will impart arts-based literacy building techniques. All programs will be bilingual in English and Spanish and will be free and open to the public.This programming will lay the foundation for open communication and a resilient, ongoing support system for youth while in and out of the school.
