ROOTS Weekend is coming to Whitakers, NC, May 19-21, 2023!
ROOTS Weekend: Whitakers brings together artists, cultural workers, organizers and activists to engage in dialogue, make and witness art, and learn from one another. This is a condensed version of ROOTS Week (our signature gathering). These 3-day convenings get ROOTS members out in the field, connecting in our members’ home communities. They bring us together to share ideas and inspiration through performance, visual art, workshops, conversations, and delicious food.
ROOTS Weekends deepen our collective understanding of the work of social change by celebrating the artists and organizers doing this work within their communities.
As we come off of our Chrysalis Month, we wanted to hold ROOTS Weekend somewhere that felt warm, safe, and like home. Franklinton Center at Bricks’ vision is “to manifest a world where systemic oppression does not exist; the whole divinity of a person is realized; the memory, contribution and resilience of our ancestors is embraced; and the environment is healed.” It feels right to share space and community with this organization whose mission is so aligned with ROOTS’ own.
We know that impactful work can happen when artists and activists have space to gather and share with each other, and we aim to create that space.
