Zaid Hameed (He/Him) is the new Membership Services Associate. A spoken-word poet born and raised in East St. Louis, Illinois relocating to Atlanta, Georgia; Zaid graduated from East St. Louis Senior High in 2012, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2017. He has been a member of his local poetry slam team for three years, currently finishing up his first poetry book titled, If You Only Knew, to be released this summer.

Zaid’s love of faith, performing arts, community, and business development has become part of the driving force behind his personal growth. This has allowed Zaid to learn who Zaid truly is. He’s looking forward to sharing this experience with the ROOTS team, membership, and larger community striving to create the greatest impact for all people.

Alternate ROOTS supports the creation and presentation of original art that is rooted in communities of place, tradition or spirit. We are a group of artists and cultural organizers based in the South creating a better world together. As Alternate ROOTS, we call for social and economic justice and are working to dismantle all forms of oppression—everywhere.
